Rain or snow, you can still enjoy boating even if you’re not actually on a boat on Lake Lanier. We know you might like your fix of spending time on Lake Lanier, but as we enter fall, you’ll need to get a little more creative. With the subtle adjustments of the seasons from beautiful, humid summer to cold and rainy fall, boating is becoming more and more seldom in your life. You might be concentrating on taking the kids to sports games or running errands instead of coming down to Freedom Boat Club. Despite the ever changing weather, as we get deeper into fall, you won’t be able to dip those toesies in Lake Lanier or go swimming to cool off as the hot Georgia sun bakes your skin. Instead, you can continue to go boating, but you’ll have to keep to water activities that allow you to stay on the boat such as fishing, relaxing, and picnicking. As we descend into autumn, going out onto Lake Lanier might not be at the top of your list of things to do. We understand, especially with the cold weather coming in. With chilly weather preparing to overtake Georgia, it’s time to get your boating fix in another way and that’s through movies about being on the open sea.

Four Movies To Watch About Boating When The Weather Is Less Than Ideal

Who doesn’t love a good movie on a cold, rainy Georgia day? Now, you can enjoy watching these movies about boating as you get your fill of some fun on the water. Even though you might not be on Lake Lanier and steering a boat in person, you’ll still get your fix of boat life when you settle into your couch with your loved ones. Add a bowl of popcorn on your lap, some tasty beverages, and the soft sound of pitter-pattering rain against your roof as you settle under a cozy blanket in front of the TV. With a good movie, you can get your passion for boating from your own living room, at least until the cold weather passes and spring appears again. These four movies are perfect to ease your aching, passionate boat-loving heart.

Master & Commander: The Far Side of The World

The first movie you can enjoy on our list is Master & Commander: The Far Side of The World. Even though this movie came out in 2003 it’s still a good one that tells a powerful story. With big names such as Russell Crowe and Billy Boyd from The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, this movie has some superb acting. The movie tells the story of Captain Jack Aubrey, a brash British captain during the Napoleonic Wars who pushes his crew and his vessel to the limits while seeking a French warship near South America. Captain Jack Aubrey’s ship the H.M.S. Surprise is a British frigate and is on track to take over the French privateer, which is named Acheron. Aubrey does everything he can to capture the ship, which includes battles and Aubrey’s own drive to pursue the impossible of a ship that’s faster and more agile than the Surprise. With action packed sequences, internal obstacles, and a dollop of history, you’ll be on the edge of your seat as Aubrey strives to take over the Acheron.

The Hunt For Red October

Who doesn’t enjoy watching a Sean Connery movie? This James Bond legend pairs up with Alex Baldwin, Sam Neill, Tim Curry, and James Earl Jones to tell a story about a nuclear submarine during the Cold War. The movie, which is a very famous one, was released in 1990 and tells the tale of a Soviet Union submarine captain that violates his orders in his new vessel to head right for the United States. The movie begs the question of whether Connery’s character is starting a war or defects the situation as he heads toward America. The submarine that the Soviet Union uses is a nuclear silent one and Connery’s character, Marko Ramius, has a goal of taking it to the U.S. to prevent the Soviet Union from using it as a nuclear missile to start a war with America. The movie is filled with twists and turns that leave you on the edge of your seat in this high-tech thriller.

The African Queen

The African Queen came out in 1951 and is still a goody to watch with Hollywood legends, Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. The movie is based on a book by C.S. Forester and tells the story of a gin-swilling riverboat captain who is persuaded by a missionary to take his boat to attack an enemy vessel. It takes place during World War I in Africa in the year 1914. The movie is filled with a daunting expedition, adventure, fierce morals, and the interactions between a free-spirited drunk and a devout abstentionist, which will leave you amused at their chemistry and banter. If you’re a fan of Humphrey Bogart, older movies, or you enjoy war ones, then The African Queen is a movie you will want to watch again and again.

The Perfect Storm

The Perfect Storm came out in 2000 with an all-star cast of George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, John C. Reilly, and Diane Lane. This movie is a story about weather conditions that create a killer storm in the North Atlantic Ocean with a ship caught in the middle. In the storm, is a sword-fishing boat called the Andrea Gail, which causes mortal danger for the people on board. The Perfect Storm is filled with true-life drama, information about fishing, the juxtaposition of the weather and the people fighting to stay alive on board, as well as foreshadowing to what happens to those in this anticipatory drama. If you’re a George Clooney fan or you enjoy fishing adventures, this movie is a good one for that rainy night.
