Just like land and air vehicles, there are dozens of different types of boats and watercraft that are designed for different purposes. Some boats are lean mean speed machines, others are enormous cruise ships that are meant to essentially be a floating fortress paradise. In today’s blog here at Freedom Boat Club in Buford, we talk about five fun activities that you can do while boating!

Fishing

For those fishing enthusiasts out there, shore fishing is great and all, but have you ever tried fishing from a boat? When you fish from the shore, you only have access to the fish that are willing to hang around by the shoreline. That usually means that you have access to less fish and fish that are smaller in size. When you head out to fish different spots amongst the lake, you give yourself a much better chance at catching your white whale. Not to mention, heading out to a remote location at Lake Lanier in the early morning is a relaxing experience that can help you unwind and forget your troubles. You can maybe even spend some quality time with a beloved family member or friend!

Tubing

To anyone who hasn’t been tubing behind a boat before our team at Freedom Boat Club in Buford highly recommends it. Depending on your driver, it can be a nice relaxing trip around the lake with your hand trailing in the cool water or an intense challenge to hang on for dear life. Much like a roller coaster, there isn’t anything like it! It is exciting and a little scary at the same time. It is surprisingly difficult to hang onto a tube behind a speeding boat — especially while you are hitting waves, bumps, and other boat’s wakes. For a fun head-to-head challenge, you can always have a friend join you on a multi-person tube and see who is brave enough to hold on the longest!

Water ski and wakeboard

While you might not pick up water skiing or wakeboarding right away — the payoff is well worth the wait. Practicing day after day finally pays off in a big way the first time you are able to pull yourself up and glide across the water. It’s an incredible feeling that can only be described as what flying might feel like. If you keep practicing beyond just pulling yourself up, then you can get to a point where you are jumping the boat wake, doing tricks, and more!

The only way to get good at something is lots of practice. Give yourself the opportunity to become a wakeboarding and water skiing expert by joining Freedom Boat Club in Buford and getting access to water sports every day!

Racing

Boat racing is a dangerous sport and should only be done in an appropriate setting. That being said, if you have a need for speed and a love for the water, then boat racing might be an excellent activity for you! There are some very fast, very insane race boats out there. What not everybody knows, though, is that you can race more than just speed boats. There are boat races of all different types. If you are interested in boats that can really move, then check out our other blog about the fastest boats in the world.

Family day

Looking for a fun day of family bonding and adventure? Look no further. You can rent a family friendly pontoon boat to putt around the lake on, go swimming, or just take in Lake Lanier’s natural beauty! Just make sure you follow the proper safety precautions if you are going to have swimmers in the water nearby by displaying your orange flag, turning off your motor, and anchoring.

Family days aren’t strictly mean for pontoon boats, though! You can get some great family-bonding action with a tubing day, fishing, boat racing, and water skiing and wakeboarding too.
